Group Benefits Source, Inc. was founded in 2003 by Roger Heideman. With nearly 20 years experience in hospital/physician administration as well as public, private and provider-owned insurance companies, Roger discovered the need for a business to serve as an advocate for employers and their employees. Experience with sales and provider contracts, as well as extensive training in underwriting and pricing, provided Roger with the perfect experience to establish GBS.

Roger Heideman, President, Owner, CEO, Knower of All Things Benefits

A native of Illinois, Roger graduated from Illinois State University. With more than 25 years in the healthcare industry, Roger has experience in hospital and physician administration, private, public and provider-owned insurance companies. He has experience negotiating provider contracts as well as extensive training in underwriting and pricing. In addition, Roger played an integral role in designing and implementing insurance products for OSF HealthPlans. He has experience in working with Fortune 500 Companies and consultants with company benefits, including the Federal Employees Health Benefits as well as the State of Illinois Employee benefits. He has served on various boards throughout the community. In his free time, he can usually be found watching a sporting event of some kind but loves to watch his kids play. He drinks a lot of coffee and can even be found playing drums with his musical ability.

DeeAnn Smith, Trying to Retire…but We Won’t Let Her Go!

After nearly 15 years experience in healthcare marketing, DeeAnn joined GBS as Client Services Manager in 2007. In this role, DeeAnn works diligently to assist in providing insurance coverage that best meets clients’ needs, as well as handling group & member enrollment information and answering questions in regards to benefit coverage, billing and claims. Dee Ann is a helpful and dedicated advocate for GBS clients. She has married off both of her kiddos and is waiting on her first grand baby!


Kathryn Angri (Rees), Client Support Specialist, Client Advocate, Spreadsheet Queen

Kathryn (Kat) has been with Group Benefits Source since June of 2018.  She has 7 years of experience of handling insurance claims. Being an advocate for clients is something that Kat has a passion for and desire to bring excellent customer service to all our GBS clients. Kat graduated from Greenville University in 2011 with a degree in Psychology/Religion. She just got married in April; and she and her husband live in Bloomington with their dog, Remus. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, painting, doing crafts and playing video games.


Susan Brown, Client Support Specialist, Client Advocate, Add, Terms and Changes Guru

Susan has been with Group Benefits Source since April of 2015. She enjoys talking with clients and helping them navigate the wonder world of group insurance! She and her family moved to Bloomington in 1988 from Southern California. She came to GBS after having worked as an accounting/payroll specialist for over 25 years. She enjoys spending time with her 4 grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, the color purple, volunteering with various charitable organizations and playing in her church Bell Choir.


Bethany Agge, Projects, Fill In, Helper, Whatever else is needed that day

Bethany started working for Group Benefits Source in April of 2018. Prior to that, she worked with Roger as a client at another organization. She has been in human resources for 5+ years and knows both sides of offering benefits to employees. She works behind the scenes offering support in many different fashions. She likes to keep busy with two little girls, an amazing husband and balancing work. She is able to do this with a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus! She loves to cook and decorate anything in her favorite color, orange.
